This is my geocaching journal. I log/post photos of geocaches I found and attempted. I mostly geocache around Orange County, California.
DO NOT read this if you don't want to know where these geocaches are or want any hints. I will try my best to not give anything away to spoil the fun for fellow geocachers, but I still want to chronicle my thoughts and progress. Just fair warning if you're reading this.

As is becoming the tradition on Geocaching Saturdays with [personal profile] lottia_paleacea we went and got vegan first then geocached this past weekend. This time it was to Wheel of Life the vegan chinese/thai place on Culver Drive in Irvine, then geocaching around that area (Woodbridge?).

First we tried the closest geocache I found to the restaurant, The Castle Walls. However, it had clues to lead us to the coordinates for the one supposed other castle in Irvine, but we didn't have a clue how to decipher that. So we just snapped a pic of the castle and went off to the next cache.
A Castle in Irvine?

Next one was down the street in a park, supposedly for Members Only (and we forgot our jackets!) so we had to grab this one fast cuz I did't want a ticket.
We found Lights... Camera... ACtion!, well, [personal profile] lottia_paleacea did: IMG_1476

The description says it's in a 35mm film canister, but it's not.... yeah i dunno.

Here's me signing the log:

Then we went just down the street to another park (is Irvine the City of Parks or what?), for the geocache Arbor Park. Took us a little bit, problems with our GPS's I think cuz of the coverage in teh area, but I found it.
IMG_1477

After signing the log, we were off to the next one, but I did stop to smell the roses on the way out :3 Mmmm~

Then off to ANOTHER park, to find Flock of Seagulls.
It was apparent when we got to the coordinates it would be among the birds of paradise (they look sorta like seagulls I guess) but all the recent logs said it was hard to find, buried in debris, and lots of spiders.... And we definitely can second that. We came across a black widow.
[personal profile] lottia_paleacea ventured in, wearing jeans:
IMG_1479

But I opted to stay out of the spider webs, being in short shorts.

Either way, we couldn't find it. Maybe it was gone, maybe hidden in the mulch, but we didn't want to investigate further due to the wildlife.

There was another one in the same park, but across the length, so we walked down a ways to find Keep It Green. After reaching hte coordinates, all I could think was of the trash cans near the gazebo it led us too, like not littering is very "Green".... But I was off. lol. [personal profile] lottia_paleacea found it and climbed up to get it:
IMG_1483

I thought there was no way anybody could reach it there, so it couldn't be that high, but it turns out if you can get up on the pillars... yep!
IMG_1485

Terrain 2! lol
IMG_1484

it was green, after all. A green tic-tac container.

Then we were off to another sort of park area nearby, where there were a lot of assholes in the small parking lot, and we had to walk really far to get by this cache off of a bike trail, Havasu Or Bust!
It said height is inversely proportional to difficulty of finding, and we were S.O.L. right off the bat cuz we're both short/average height. We thought it must be up in a tree by the bike path, cuz of the coordinates, but we couldn't see anything, and even if we could have who knows if we could've climbed the trees to reach it. So we gave up on that one.
The geocache is now "unavailable" on the web site so perhaps it really was gone.

We decided to call it a day and head back home. On the way back through Fullerton to stop by a thrift shop to look for geocaching fanny packs (I know.) I decided to track down a cache hidden by my twitter friend and Fullerton geocacher @MercuryState.
In the description it says "not magnetic" which while TRUE, is totally a misleading hint :P Either way it wasn't too hard to find.

A painted altoid tin :3

Finally logged one of Merc's!

Went and had lunch at the UCI Veggie Grill location (mmm tempeh and mmmm sweet potato fries!) and afterwards on the hunt for some nearby geocaches.

First found one right by the restaurant, around the corner from the Trader Joe's in the parking lot, African Safari.
Very cute creative hide. Hope no muggles saw us.
Cute safari creatures:

Then we sought out the nearby Fountains Are Cool (UCI Jack) across the way in the same shopping center in this guys' fountain series. This one took us a few minutes. The GPS location was not spot on for the cache, but for the ugly fountains. The hint was the helpful part. Immediately led me to it once it clicked. Fun to figure out!

Drove around and made our way onto the UCI campus and I navigated us to caches near the main road. Found my first virtual cache, And the Oscar Goes To...... nothing to sign, but we took a photo with a real life Oscar award! I think I need to email the person who posted it or something with the answers/that photo..... hm!

Then we almost didn't find, but at the last moment, DID find Get out of Jail (UCI).
We were glad we went here on a sunday when it was closed and totally deserted. We would've looked SO suspicious, to muggles and especially to the campus police officers, lurking about for as long as we did, searching nooks over and over again.

The hint on this one didn't seem helpful. Still doesn't make the most sense, after finding it. It was in a good hiding spot tho, for sure!

Oh and check this out, some UCI police officer left the window to one of their honkin' tricked out vehicles half rolled down all weekend (i mean, we could have CRAWLED through the thing, it was DOWN, it wasn't just CRACKED):

And there was a rifle with HUGE caliber bullets visible in between the front seats! AMAZING!:

I can't believe somebody so trained could do that on accident.

What a fun afternoon!

First we were off to re-try a difficult one [personal profile] lottia_paleacea couldn't get yesterday, in Orange, but on the way we picked up "Don't Let Your Guard Down".
IMG_1389

Lottia actually found it, and we signed the logbook. took/left nothing. Cute tin. Not camouflaged, but hidden out of sight.

Then we found "The Old Sunkist Plant" one after a few confused minutes.
IMG_1390
After hitting all the rusty metal pieces and faded orange spheres, Lottia again found it in one of the tubes I didn't check. Victory! that one was a level 3 difficulty.
IMG_1392

Near that one, we tried for "JUST BECAUSE" but no sight of it. Maybe it's not there any more or maybe we were just blind. Here's lottia looking for it.
IMG_1393
No sign of JUST BECAUSE.

We set off for a cleverly but laughably named "Huck-Colbert-ee Pond" and found it. We split up and sarched for a bit, we both overlooked its hiding spot the first time, then I found it on a second pass!! It was MY first ever find :)))
IMG_1394
There are some items in the capsule to leave/take, but we just signed the log. The best part of this one was this poster clearly wanted a Colbert/Huckabee ticket instead of Obama. LOL poor guy.
IMG_1395
Funny stuff :)

Then we decided upon attempting to find "Loco Bird" nearby. Must be in the El Pollo Loco lot, we thought! after first trying the business lot in front of it. No sign of it. Looked all over. We got some Starbucks to console our fail.

Funnest find, YET, "You want some fries with that?".
First while driving there I thought it would be at the Carl's Jr because, fries!, duh. but we found out once we got there (and ordered some fries) that the GPS point was way off, so then oh!! FRY'S!
IMG_1396
Once we got there and parked (almost getting hit TWICE in the lot by blind idiots!!) it didn't take too long to find. it's well camouflaged but the description even said it was a film canister, so that was helpful. After we checked the signposts and failed, we found it somewhere we'd already walked past.
Never would've been able to do it alone - it was 6 or 7 feet up!
IMG_1398

IMG_1397
FUN to grab with a leg-up. Although i really dirtied up my hands and shirt and elbows ^^;

Last find of the day, on teh way home, another one by Fullertonfinder, "Who Was Chip's Friend? Think Disney!" Duh, Dale St! Not hard to find once you're actually near it. Not camo-ed at all.

Well I think labor day was a good day to go do these. Some were in workplaces that would otherwise have been open/more awkward to visit a day when they were open. Yay holidays!

This is going to be my geocaching journal.

Found my first geocache under the tutelage of Travis and Synchronic Flux yesterday, originally under the name Felyana but now i'm going to start using my pseudonym GeoVegan.
it was Too Easy #2.

Gonna track a couple more today with Lottia.
